Saw someone post about looking back at high school yearbooks, and then checking out what those folks are doing now on various social media platforms. I know a bunch of folks who do it, but I’ve never been one–or at least it’s a once every decade that I might get curious.
For the most part, there’s really little value in looking back at earlier times in my life–and especially in seeing what folks who I haven’t maintained a relationship with are doing today. I’m reminded of the adage “friends for a reason, friends for a seasons, and friends for a lifetime.” For the first two categories, when that interval expires there’s no real point in reminiscing. Yep, it may have been a lot of fun (or not), but it’s over.
I try to look to the future. I hope to continue to grow and learn, and I hope I’m different than I was back then. I don’t want to go back, I don’t want to be the old me. I’ll do the best I can, and then move on.
