Not a Tech Futurist
I think about bad tech predictions I’ve made from time to time. I thought Google’s acquisition of YouTube was buying a multibillion dollar IP lawsuit because I hadn’t anticipated the ability to automate scans for potentially-infringing content and either taking down the content or directing the ad revenue to the rights-holder.
I thought the iPad was a stupid idea–then I used one and realized capacitive touch made all the difference. There’s no comparison to the underpowered and clunky tablet PCs of yore that used styli, which were rendered immediately obsolete and embarrassing.
Granted, I’ve never thought of myself as a tech futurist–because I’m not–but it’s good to have a reminder now and again that initial impressions can be wrong.
