And Who Is This Post For?
Occasionally when I’m deleting a reply draft, I wonder if somebody has created a list of reasons why people use social media. It’s clear that for some of them, it’s not to connect with other people at large, but rather only some folks according to unwritten rules. I’ve been questioned for replying to a public post that did not communicate any audience preferences, like “asking for feedback from a particular group, not everyone.” When the interaction failed, I pocketed rather than continued with “because you’re on a public site, posting publicly into the local timeline, and I’m participating?” as a reply. Clearly, we shall not interact further, I’ll leave this permanent mute for you as I depart.
Historically I’ve taken the responsibility for those failed interactions, but now I’m more inclined to just think that it’s not me who’s unclear about the concept.
